Creative Gift Idea : Floating Flower Vase

When looking for the perfect gift for my girlfriends, I can't ever find something to do them justice! Therefore, I took matters into my own hands. As I was aimlessly reading blogs one day, I fell upon http://cupcakesandcashmere.com/ and fell in love! She has fashion tips, cooking tips, and best of all, home improvement tips! I give all the thanks and credit to her for my gift idea for my girlfriends! As you can see, the gift that I made them was a floating flower vase!

You will need:
a glass jar (a cherry jar/ pasta sauce jar will do)
wood (Home depot cuts wood for free)
wire cutter
white paint
paintbrush
hammer
nails
wire

Directions:
1. Use the paint brush and white paint to paint the wood. Let it dry.

2. Position the jar where you would like to place it on the board.
Create two holes where you would like to place the glass jar.
These holes would be located near the location of the rim of the jar.

3. Wrap wire around the rim of the glass jar and place ends of the wire through the holes in the wood. Twist it behind the wood to secure it in place. Cut the remaining wire.

4. Create two holes at the top of the rectangular piece of wood for hanging purposes. Cut a piece of wire and slide each end through one of the holes and twist to secure. Cut remaining wire.

My girlfriends loved their presents! xoxo

Girlfriends

I can't get enough of my girlfriends. Currently, I've been stressed with so many things. Work, family, school, hormones, love, etc. I'm a girl so gimme a break! I got my worrying from my momma ;). So if it isn't one, it's definitely the other. One night, I was scrolling down my address book in my phone and I realized that if I desperately needed to confide in someone, only a handful of these 100+ people would come to my aid. I could imagine many people saying that they don't have the time or that they can't really help me. That's fine. That's why I'm grateful to have met these special girls.

Leaden & I in Cali a few years back. Miss you Best!

From HS in japan, California visits, awesome birthdays, formals, Oskoda summers, sleeping in Ikea beds, making our own pizzas, awesome thrift store finds, late night decorating, cooking get togethers, fun Chicago nights out, and all the other memorable memories...
Thank you my dear Girlfriends!

& I can't wait to see two of you this weekend
May we have many more memories to come!

Beautiful Losers

Beautiful Losers film trailer from beautifullosersfilm on Vimeo.

I was in class the other day, and my friend showed me this preview to this movie.

Check it out at http://www.beautifullosers.com/.

It's funny because my painting "Conforming to Society" is all about this topic! I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

Cute Save the Date Wedding Video.

Influencers

INFLUENCERS is a short documentary that explores what it means to be an influencer and how trends and creativity become contagious today in music, fashion and entertainment.

The film attempts to understand the essence of influence, what makes a person influential without taking a statistical or metric approach.

Written and Directed by Paul Rojanathara and Davis Johnson, the film is a Polaroid snapshot of New York influential creatives (advertising, design, fashion and entertainment) who are shaping today's pop culture.

"Influencers" belongs to the new generation of short films, webdocs, which combine the documentary style and the online experience.

f*k yea!

Dear America, when you tell gay Americans that they can’t serve their country openly or marry the person that they love, you’re telling that to kids too. So don’t be fucking SHOCKED and wonder where all these bullies are coming from that are torturing young kids and driving them to kill themselves because they’re different. They learned it from watching you.

Mother's Treasure

Bronze Statue (65lbs)

Created Spring 2009

From passion, my sister & I were created. Through blood, sweat, laughter, love, and tears she molded us throughout the years. We are her greatest masterpiece. This piece was created to thank my mother for all that she has instilled in me. Her Filipino culture and my father’s American beliefs created two new generations to follow in their footsteps. Although both my parents partook in my upbringing, my mother is my hero.

This bronze casting of my body immortalizes the result of all her hard work.

Thank you Mom!

This piece was created in my casting class. I made a casting of my body and poured wax in it to create a positive. Then, I placed the wax mold in plaster and heated the plaster mold to melt and pout out the wax. Then, I poured molten bronze in the plaster mold to create this piece.
It was really time consuming, but it was so much fun!

This piece was entered in an art exhibition & it won 3rd place!

YAY!!

Conform To Society

This is one of the few paintings that I am content with.
Come over and visit & you can view this painting, which resides in my living room!

multi-media painting on a 5x5 ft. canvas

completed spring 2010

The contour lines that separate the canvas from top to bottom and left to right represent two rivers that went through the Japanese prefecture of my childhood. Three silver spheres, seen at the intersection of the rivers, represents the three cities that I vividly recall from my youth (Allen Park, MI, Atsugi, Japan & Zama, Japan). The white “river” represents a form of prism, symbolizing both society and society’s expectations for each and every one of us. The opposite river represents the individual people in this society, who all have hopes and dreams about what they want to become. Unfortunately, those aspirations often do not fit with that which is accepted by society. Therefore, one must frequently model themselves into a mirror image of what is acceptable forcing many to conform to society. There are a handful of others, however, that flow freely through the prism, boldly letting their colors show. I admire those people, who regardless of what others say, stick to their beliefs though it segregates them from the social norm. Though they may be different, it is these individuals that color our world.

LEO ARIAS

I met him this summer through one of my best girlfriends, Erin Weiner!
(he says she looks like his sister haha)

He is a pretty dope bartender, emcee for the Chicago Tribe, and a guitarist!
Why am I writing a blog about him? Well, to be straight up, he's a cool guy and his music is pretty dope. Leo is coming out with an album soon and what better way to spread the word than to write about it in my blog! I had the pleasure of listening to some of his new tracks recently and he's definitely someone to look out for!

So... aren't you dying to get a taste of what he's all about?

Check out his talent at:

My all-time favorite track would be his song: Me & My Girl

P.S. My girlfriend Erin dates one of the PV guys!
She later informed me that the design reps a Chicago hockey team!

Halloween Weekend with my Girlfriends

Halloween is a time to dress up & have some fun!
My girlfriends & I were 80s workout girls (inspired by flashdance) & we went to a club coincidentally called Boogie Fever! It was a blast!
Then again, when is it never a blast with my girlfriends?!

We were always in character & stretched every once in a while haha!

We even borrowed Mr. Lifeguard's boom box!

& We did Yoga in the womens bathroom.

These tetris people won the costume contest that night! Their prize was a trip to the BAHAMAS! Perhaps next year my girlfriends and I can win!

The next night, I dressed up as a fairy! I even made my own bag for "fairy dust" (glitter).

Haha Kristy's so cute! She dressed as a little dutch schoolboy with a lollipop!
I granted her a wish!

My girlfriends and I had so much fun!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

Photoshoot in a Cornfield

Two weeks ago, I did a photoshoot in a cornfield. Thank goodness there weren't any bugs crawling on me (at least that i knew of). One of my dearest girlfriends, Kristy was my stylist & she did such a wonderful job! I swear she has an eye for fashion! We had so much fun & here are some of the pictures that the photographer sent me. I can't wait to see the rest of them!
Enjoy!

Modeling @ the Local Mall

A few weeks back, I modeled for a local fashion show. Here are some pictures!
Enjoy!

My favorite!! A $500+ Armani Blazer!

The show was fun and exciting, but the best part of that weekend was spending it with my two awesome girlfriends, Izzy & Kristy. <3>
